All About Kellie

Hi all -

My name is Kellie Fritze...full-time wife and mom, full-time UAF staff, and part-time student. I grew up in Seattle. My Aunt and Uncle (moved to Fairbanks in 1957) lived here in Fairbanks and I thought what a great summer trip that would be, so after my Junior year of college I jumped on the ferry in Bellingham and made my way to Fairbanks. Needless to say, it's been a VERY long summer trip - now 20 years later.

Although I love to travel, read, spend time at home, I am not able at this point to do much of any of these things. My priorities are family, work, and now classes. Our son is in first grade, and I volunteer weekly in his classroom. Our daughter will be two in April, and she is a crazy girl - extremely active, loud, and hysterical. She keeps us all laughing :-) .

I am looking forward to completing this course and experiencing this alternative way to take classes.

Kellie,
"jumped ship" eh? So what about was it about Fairbanks that made you want to stay here?

Didn't you say you are a communication major? What inspired you to go into Professional Communication?

At first, the best thing about Fairbanks was my Aunt, who I am sad to say died a few years ago. She is why I stayed after that first summer. Then, I was making much more money than I could have in Seattle, and then I met my husband...the rest is history!

I am a communications major now. Originally, I was business administration. I have been taking a few classes here and there for the past few years, but this fall I decided to get serious and finally finish my degree. At this point in my life I am more interested in taking courses I am interested in, instead of courses I should take to "help me in my career." I sat down with the catalog and the communications courses were far more interesting to me than the remaining business courses I needed, so here I am. Well, actually, I needed this class for both...one of those GenEd classes I have been putting off, becuase I don't like public speaking :-) . Funny thing is a communications degree is going to be a significant asset to anyone in any field in the future. As I am sure you know, the current business culture is leaning heavily towards strong communication skills.

I just want to say your kids are at the best age ever. I love my kids at that age. Because this is the time where they learn so much and start to become "big little people".

Wow Kellie, that's all I can say! As an extremely busy college student working one full time job, one part time job, 3/4 time college on top of family and friends) I think that I'll have to admit that you totally one up me on busy! How amazing that you can raise your family, volunteer and be actuve in your child's lives while still persuing your own goals! I REALLY look forward to your posts this semester, you seem like a lady we can all learn something from!
